Update 07.24.2012. MOCA is in a lot more trouble than I thought, with 3 of the major artists on the Board quitting. i hate to see its demise, and this post is way too snarky for what’s going on. MOCa - especially the Temporary Contemporary (Geffen) - has been a really exciting place and I owe a lot to it.
nothing like a art scandal. moca director Jeffrey Deitch and uber-mogul Eli Broad go at it in the City of Angels. listened to Warren Olney of KCRW interview with outraged big wig Angelenos including reviewer Christopher Knight who called Abstraction after Warhol show “hastily hung”. i really liked it tho not sure the thesis holds.
labels mostly state the artists as living and working in NYC (no matter where they’re from) including star (and talent) David Bradford b. Los Angeles. moca’s permanent collection is on exhibit all jammed together in another wing.
A challenge to the West Coast status quo. Deitch will not win IMHO, cause he didn’t bring the money with him.1 note, Posted: 2 years ago, tagged: #photography #xLA
